Hey everybody, Jake here. As much as it pains me to say this, we have decided to cancel our upcoming U.S. tour dates and festival appearances to take a break from Modern Baseball for a little while. If you already bought tickets for the tour, refunds will be available at point of purchase.
Over the past few months the band has become an immense source of anxiety for me, and it wasnât until I opened up to Sean, Ian, and Brendan about it that we realized we were all feeling the same way. The project we started as a source of joy and positive expression had become something that was slowly eating away at our mental health and our friendships. We have been championing the importance of mental health for a while now, and we recently realized that it would be wrong for us to ignore our own health any longer. Please know that we donât take a tour cancellation lightly, and under any other circumstances we would not even consider it an option, but in this instance we have to put our health and friendships first. Youâve supported us unconditionally throughout this crazy ride and we could never thank you enough. We never really learned how to do this whole ârock bandâ thing the right way, but you kept coming to the shows and talking to us and assuring us that weâd figure it out sooner or later. We could not have done any of this without you. Be honest with those you love and donât be afraid to lean on them when you need to. Odds are theyâll need to lean on you pretty soon too.
Strung out is currently working on a 5-7 song EP entitled âBlack Out The Skyâ set to release early summer 2017 on Fat Wreck Chords. BOTS will be a collection of acoustic songs written with a loose theme to match the title. To simply call it an âacoustic albumâ would not be doing it justice and it very well may be our darkest release yet.
Never writing same record twice â yet at the same time staying true to our fans has always been our priority as a band. We do not plan on abandoning our signature sound but with the way things are now, this record may be the perfect remedy in a world where everything is turned up to eleven. We are confident fans of Strung Out will not be disappointed.
â15 years ago the first thing we ever did was put together an EP, that eventually turned into a longer EP called From The Depths of Dreams which was our first official release. WE thought it would be appropriate to celebrate our 15 year anniversary by doing the same thing. These songs are a throwback to an older style of Senses Fail and we are very proud of exploring this sound and the future. Here is to another 15 years.â
By now Iâm sure many of you have already heard the news, but we wanted to communicate to you all directly. Not just to express the fact that nobody is in critical condition, but to express our gratitude to the fans who have seen us or who were going to see us on this tour, the crew who was also in the accident with us and part of why things have been going so smoothly, the various promoters and venue staff, Live Nation Poland who have been so helpful in the last 38 hours, the many police and medics and emergency workers who came to the scene, the hospital workers, and the friends and family who have reached out to us personally since yesterday morning.
We were in the middle of playing some of our favorite shows weâve ever played, and having a better time on and off stage than we have in a long time.
We were ripped out of sleep at 8:25AM to what still feels like a lucid nightmare. The cacophony of metal bending and things breaking and people screaming and what felt like being hit by a missile. Without going into detail, not everyone is out of the hospital yet, some of us are hurt worse than others.
Questions like why did this happen, why are we alive and others not, why are the people from the Bay Area fire dead, why at all is anyone here or not. What the hell is all of this. Remember how valuable life is. We are all lucky to be alive. To just have any time at all.
Anyway, thanks to you all for caring. We were truly having an amazing time and weâre blessed to have you all, such a high caliber group of people. Itâs been an honor to play these shows, but we unfortunately have to cancel the remainder of them. We will reschedule every one that we can, and weâll update more when we can. â Greg, Ben, Liam, Billy, Kevin
